The Opportunity ->  Area Forester

This is an excellent opportunity for a forestry professional who has the desire to work for a family-owned forest products company and grow your careers in the forest industry.

The Area Forester will be part of the larger Sinclar Group Woodlands Team and will have various levels of responsibilities in our operations including Safety, First Nation relations, community relations, operational planning, contractor management, and financial controls. With demonstrated professionalism and a steadfast commitment to safety as a priority, the successful candidates will be able to take initiative, work both independently and collaboratively, manage priorities, time, and possess excellent communication skills.

Primary Duties and Responsibilities

  • Carry out scheduling and supervising operational duties under company tenures and First Nation agreements and partnerships for wood supply for our manufacturing facilities
  • Monitor contractor production, update production forecasts
  • Coordinate and facilitate road and bridge construction, as well as the maintenance of road and bridge infrastructure
  • Coordinate and facilitate harvesting, log hauling and post-harvest activities.
  • Conduct field work which may include travel to remote areas by vehicle or foot, overnight or extended stay in rough camp conditions and outdoor work in all weather conditions

Operating Duties

  • Supervise and administer contracting process and maintain clear lines of communication and coordination externally and internally.
  • Prepare cost tracking and reporting in a timely manner, ensuring the reports are accurate and consistent with operations.
  • Collaborate with silviculture and planning foresters on operational plans.
  • Implement and provide input to the Sinclar Environmental and Safety Management Systems
  • Collaborate and support log yard and scaling team
  • Maintain positive and efficient communications with the government and other key stakeholders

Qualifications and Education 

  • Fully licensed Registered Professional Forester (RPF) or Registered Forest Technologist
  • Minimum of 5 years relevant forestry experience
  • Proven commitment to a safety-first culture
  • Exhibits strong interpersonal and leadership skills with the ability to maintain a comfortable rapport with stakeholders


The successful candidate can reside in any of our three communities in which we operate, Prince George, Vanderhoof or Fort St James.
