The Opportunity – Financial Analyst (Lumber Operations)
This is an excellent opportunity for someone who has a keen appetite to grow their career in the forest manufacturing industry.
Under the direction of the Controller, Lumber Operations, you will be responsible for the financial management including preparing financial statements, cost reports, reconciliations, and financial analysis, while developing and maintaining internal controls to mitigate asset risk. This is done with the values of integrity, transparency, and professionalism, while ensuring compliance with policies, procedures, regulations, and safety.
Primary Duties and Responsibilities
- Develop accurate expenditure forecasts for all Finance activities and oversee the Finance Plan to ensure cost targets are met
- Provide service to both internal and external stakeholders on all matters pertaining to Finance in particular, and other Administration functions as necessary
- Ensure financial reporting for all departments and divisions is timely, accurate, and consistent with their need to manage and control costs
- Analyze financial performance against key performance indicators
- Respond to special requests for financial data and analysis, and requests for information on proposed and current projects and programs
Financial Reporting
- Prepare the monthly financial statements in accordance with GAAP
- Prepare Balance Sheet reconciliations each month and bring material adjustment recommendations forward for discussion
- Prepare monthly financial forecasts, highlighting any variances in revenues and expenses compared to Plan and forecasts
- Take a leadership role in publishing the Annual Business Plan
Operating Duties
- Plan, manage and coordinate the financial accounting programs in accordance with Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP) prescribed by the Canadian Institute of Chartered Accountants (CICA)
- Report key performance indicators, and recommend or implement the appropriate corrective action to ensure continuous improvement, quality standard adherence and effective and efficient administration
- Prepare for and manage the annual Audit process
- Maintain the fiscal integrity of the computerized financial system
- Support the capital planning process
Management and Organization
- Actively participate as a member of the team in management meetings by reporting on matters specific to the Finance department, the overall financial results of the organization, raising financial issues or risks, and working collectively to resolve issues
- Maintain and develop positive relations with employees, the management team, shareholders, regulatory agencies, suppliers, customers, the general public and all other stakeholders
Policies and Procedures
- Assist in developing, implementing and enforcing accounting policies, procedures and standards, and recommend changes to accounting procedures as needed
- Work with the management team to help ensure compliance with policies, procedures, rules and regulations of the Company
- Perform other financial duties, tasks, and projects, as required
Qualifications and Education
- Certified Professional Accountant (CPA) Canadian or Canadian recognized.
- Five years’ experience with increasing financial responsibility
- Experience with leading/coaching/mentoring a team
- Lumber industry experience is an asset (or related manufacturing experience)
- Demonstrates curiosity and strong problem solving, critical thinking and decision making skills
- Information systems evaluation and implementation
- Proven commitment to a safety first culture
- Requires a high level of professionalism and confidentiality
- Exhibits strong interpersonal and leadership skills with the ability to maintain a comfortable rapport with stakeholders
- Highly organized with an ability to prioritize workload and meet demanding deadlines
- Demonstrates strong knowledge Microsoft Office skills
- Knowledge of Microsoft Business Central is an asset

The salary range for these positions is $86,768 – $108,459 annually
