We have an exciting opportunity for a Shipping Supervisor in our West Operations locations at either Apollo Forest Products Ltd. in Fort St James, BC, or Nechako Lumber Ltd. in Vanderhoof BC.

The Opportunity – Shipping Supervisor, West Operations
Reporting to the Site Manager, West Operations, the Shipping Supervisor, West Operations is responsible at both operations for safely coordinating all mill lumber shipments utilizing best practices for inventory management. Whether its planning, scheduling and coordinating shipping activities accurately and efficiently, maintaining of accurate inventory, coordinating accurate product needs, or supporting positive customer relationships.
Shipping
- Oversees all aspects of shipping for 100% of mill production in order to meet current product demand
- Coordinates production with Planer personnel and Sales department to ensure order files are met and inventory is distributed in a timely manner
- Demonstrates strong understanding of established shipping processes in order to ensure safe and efficient loading of both railcars and trucks
- Maintain positive communications with freight providers and other key stakeholders to support our brand of quality, consistency and ease of business
Inventory Management
- Works with appropriate production personnel to forecast and manage lumber inventory through scheduling of production runs
- Plans, organizes and leads inventory rotation in order to ensure product integrity
- Prepares and provides month end physical inventory counts to both the Finance and Sales departments
- Monitors and maintains appropriate inventory levels of shipping supplies, communicates supply orders to purchasing department in a timely manner
Supervision
- Manage and coordinate employees in Forklift positions involved with the Shipping Department
- Ensures and maintains an established service focus with employees, coaches and mentors the team, effectively maintains positive relationships with key strategic external and internal stakeholders
- Builds a high performing team focusing on collaboration, innovation, and a solutions oriented approach
- Builds trusting relationships, promotes ethical practices, models respect in the workplace
- Creates a work environment and culture that supports and encourages open dialogue and continuous improvement
Qualifications and Education
- Minimum 3 to 5 years shipping experience preferred
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office applications (Outlook, Word, and Excel)
- Strong written and oral communication skills
- Ability to thrive in a working environment where demands fluctuate repeatedly due to internal and external business factors
- Contributes to a safe, healthy and respectful work environment
